Hi, I'm Jenny Waters.

I've had a few incarnations in my life: veterinary surgeon, woodworker, farmer, cafe-owner... And now I'm a lecturer in a tertiary institute. But I've always been an insatiable reader (I used to read walking to and from school) and one of those annoying, nit-picky mistake-hounds.

So it was a logical step to formalise my skills with a Diploma (Merit) in Book Editing, Proofreading and Publishing, from the New Zealand Institute of Business Studies, in 2010.

Since then, I've edited and/or proofread a range of material—articles, newsletters, manuals, university theses—but my preferred area is fiction. I love working with authors, helping to make your hard work clean and tidy and shiny before it goes out into the world. (Think of me as a caring auntie, giving you advice while she picks bits of lint from your sweater.)

Over the years, I've learnt a lot—about a lot of things. I can't guarantee to know everything, but I back myself to pick up on many of those little factual errors that may slip through. If something pings on my personal fact radar, I'll always check. (I should probably say this doesn't constitute a full fact-checking service—when was the highest tide in Wellington in 1973?—but if that's what you want, please ask. I love research.)
